P.E. CLASS

Week 3, UN Day is coming…

As always, Ladies & Gentlemen, for P.E. class:

-  No jeans
-  No crocks
-  No sandals
-  No boots or shoes
(Please, mom & dad collaborate with us by sending a proper sunscreen or sun block with your son or daughter to avoid any skin rash, and there is a need for a fly repellent as well.)

9th – 11th grade, continuing with volleyball, we will keep improving our setting skills and as for the “Workout project”, here is the list for this week’s performers:

·       Monday- for 10th B Nicole Rojas
·       Tuesday- for 9th Aleah Driggers and for 10th A Luis F. Lopez.
·       Wednesday UN Day
·       Thursday- for 9th Ana Cuevas and for 10th A Alejandro Lopez
·       Friday- finally 11th (welcome back!), for them Andrea Martinez will perform and for 10th B Daniela Leal  

6th to 8th grade, great week as well, we will start practicing for volleyball, so get ready!

U.N. DAY CELEBRATION-  The DPTO is organizing our annual U.N. Day celebration for this Wednesday, October 30. We hope our parents can join us this day. The celebration will begin at 9:00 a.m. to allow parents time to set up their tables. Students will be dismissed from school at 11:45 a.m. The DPTO has planned an International Fashion Show for the UN Day, and they need your help! If you want to participate by modeling or by lending any typical costume that you may have, please contact Marielos or Alexanderia at the following email addresses:  mmm9487@yahoo.com  or  amhaidara05@yahoo.com

DONATIONS NEEDED:  Don’t forget to send in cereal boxes for Ya Tengo Donde Escribir” between now and November 20. The grade that brought the most boxes will be awarded a pizza party or ice cream party! Please help us help those in need!

For Early Childhood and Elementary Only:

BOOK CHARACTER DAY – The Early Childhood and Elementary students are asked to come dressed as their favorite book character on Thursday, October 31. Grades 3, 4 and 5 will be hosting a live wax museum of book characters during the second period.

CHILDREN’S OPERA AT THE MANUEL BONILLA – Grades Kindergarten through Fifth have been invited to the presentation of LA TORTUGA Y LA MAGICA CANCIONUWUNGELEMA, the first Children’s Opera to be presented in Honduras. This opera ws wriiten and directed by Maestro Jorge Mejia. The students will be attending this presentation on Wednesday, November 6. We will leave the school at 8:00 a.m. and return at around 11:00 a.m. The fee for the entrance and transportation is L180.00, which must be sent to the school no later than Friday, November 1. For this field trip, each grade must have one parent chaperon for every 4 students. If you are interested, please contact your child’s teacher.

For Secondary Only:

COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUB-  We will have a meeting on Tuesday, October 29, at lunchtime in Mrs. Christina Agurcia's room.  We will discuss our visit to Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos on Sunday, November 3rd and preparation for the annual Christmas party.  All secondary students are invited to attend.

OPERATION WALLACEA- Operation Wallacea is an international organization that joins high school and university students with field research scientists to aid in gathering data for biodiversity conservation, here in Honduras and in other locations throughout the world.  Representatives from this organization will present information on Tuesday, October 29, at 3:15 PM in the Discovery School library.  Students from Grades 8-12 and their parents are invited to attend and learn about this amazing opportunity.

October 22 to 24, 2013

Wow! Week 2, time is in a rush…

9th – 11th grade, another great week! We will engage in a new and exciting activity consisting of: each and every student will learn a workout routine that he or she will conduct during the first 6 minutes of class for his classmates to follow. We will be training on the necessary skills to play volleyball correctly.


6th to 8th grade, we will have a great week of our own, we will have our attention at the football or gridiron game, some of its rules and have a taste of some of the workouts practiced in that sport.

·         REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCES – We will be issuing the report cards for the first quarter this Friday, October 25. Please make sure that you are planning to attend the meetings with your child’s teachers to discuss the academic progress in the first quarter.

CATS – The presentation has unfortunately been cancelled. We will be returning the money paid for the event as soon as we can.The day that we send it home with your son/daughter will be announced beforehand.

Welcome back from a long weekend and from enjoying watching Honduras and the U.S.A soccer teams qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

9th – 11th grade, this will be a great week! We will initiate this 1st half of the 2nd quarter practicing volleyball. We will be training on the necessary skills to play the game correctly.


6th to 8th grade, a great week for us all as this week will be looking at the football game, “American football”. We will be practicing several skills that are required in order to be able to play the game.


  • MAP FALL TESTING SESSION – We will be completing our MAP testing session this week, following the calendar posted on the Three Week Calendar Below. Please be accommodating on sending your students who still have to finish/take make up tests, Our testing window needs to be closed this Friday in order for Student Reports and Goal Conference sheets to be generated by NWEA. For your convenience, these documents will be downloaded by your Area Administrator, saved on the server and given to you in hard copies.

CATS - On Thursday October 24th, grades 6 through 12 will be going to the Hotel Honduras Maya for the presentation of the play "CATS". The cost to attend this event is150 lempiras. This includes the entrance ticket and transportation. Permission slips were sent home on Monday, October 7, and the deadline to turn the money and signed permission slip in to the homeroom teacher was Wednesday October 9. If you have not returned the money and permission slip, please do so this week so your child can participate.

October 7 to 11, 2013

Good day boys and girls! This will be a wonderful week to pump up your physique and practice sports so we can get strong and our minds sharp.


9th – 11th grade this week we will keep of the “Field Hockey” game, but our main goal this week we will be, getting physically prepared for the battery test due for this week.
  • 11th and 10th “B” on Friday October 11
  • 10th “A” and 9th on Thursday the 10th


6th to 8th grade, this will be last week for baseball as the season is coming to an end. Also, the battery test is due for this week and we need to finish our preparation for such test. The schedule will be as follows:
  • 6th “B” on Tuesday October 8
  • 7th on Thursday the 10th
  • 8th and 6th “A” on Friday the 11th


* Please take note of the following:

NO ELECTRICITY ON TUESDAY – The ENEE has published that there will be no electricity in our school on Tuesday, October from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please plan accordingly, and remind your students in your blog posts for this week.

  • On Saturday, October 19, 8:00 am, the Sophomores will be taking the PSAT exam as a preparation for upcoming college admission exams.
  • On Thursday October 24th, grades 6 through 12 will be going to the Hotel Honduras Maya for the presentation of the play "CATS". The cost to attend this event is 150 lempiras. This includes the entrance ticket and transportation. Permission slips will be sent home on Monday, and the due date to turn the money and signed permission slip in is Wednesday October 9.


MAP FALL TESTING SESSION – This is the third week of our Map testing session. Parent cooperation in making sure our students are in school on time is greatly appreciated.


DONATIONS NEEDED: “Ya Tengo Donde Escribir” is an organization aiming to help children from public schools that cannot afford notebooks. In order to help, the organization makes notebooks out of cereal boxes and pages from used notebooks. They are now collecting cereal boxes until November 20, and we encourage our students and teachers to bring cereal boxes from their homes. At the end of the contest, the grade that brought the most boxes will be awarded a pizza party or ice cream party! Please help us help those in need!
