P.E. CLASS

January 27 to 31, 2014

It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

As always reminding you that for P.E. class:
We need all students to wear proper clothing for the class.
·       Tennis shoes, long shorts (boys and girls) or sweat pants, and t-shirt (without cleavage) or jerseys.

-  No dresses for the girls
-  No jeans
-  No crocs
-  No sandals
-  No boots or shoes

(Please, mom & dad collaborate with us by sending a proper sunscreen or sun block with your son or daughter to avoid any skin rash, and there is a need for a fly repellent as well.)

9th – 11th grade, we will be practicing passing for soccer. The lower field facility is our place to be for all soccer practices and for the rest of the academic year.

6th to 8th grade, we will play different pre-games related to soccer aimed to develop agility in the handling of the ball. The lower field is our home for this half academic

MAP TESTING – This is week two of our second MAP testing session for this school year.

CHOIR PARENTS – On Monday, February 3, at 3:15 p.m., there will be a mandatory meeting in the school Library for parents of all Choir students who are planning to travel to New York City in June 2014 to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Information will be given concerning the trip and payments needed, and Important decisions about the trip will be taken. We need at least one parent for each Choir student to attend this meeting.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKS! - This month your child(ren) will have the opportunity to purchase books through the International Scholastic Book Clubs.  This is an optional activity offered by the school, in case you want to motivate your child to read at home and to increase their own library.  With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem for more books for the benefit of your children in our school. Order forms and catalogues were sent home on Friday. The final date to purchase the books online is February 10. The books will arrive at the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date. FROM THE DPTO – PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS – The DPTO has been working very hard to organize the traditional Movie Event for Discovery School families. This year, it will take place at NOVACENTRO on Sunday, February 9 at 11:00 a.m. for the presentation of THE LEGO MOVIE

9th – 11th grade, working out will be a top priority for us this 2nd half of the academic year, set that aside this week we will go over some drills for soccer aimed to develop in students control of the ball while running with it.


6th to 8th grade, this quarter is dedicated to soccer. This week we will make some drills that will show students how to make and receive a pass.

REMINDER FOR PARENTS – Please take note that the passing grade according to the Ministry of Education is 70%. If your child scored less that 70% in the final grade for the second quarter, then he/she needs to take a recuperation exam scheduled for Saturday, January 25.

P.E. CLASS

January 13 to 17, 2014

Heed instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it.

To all secondary, I recommend you take a look to the bulletin boards in both, the 1st and 2nd floor of the secondary building, and take your time to read the powerful phrases and quotes posted on these!

9th – 11th grade, soccer for the 3rd quarter and this week we will begin by exercising with the ball in order for you, or those, who do not have control the ball while running with it.


6th to 8th grade, just as grades from 9 to 11, we will practice soccer. We will engage in pre-sport games that will allow you to understand the basic rules of the game.

SECOND QUARTER REPORT CARDS AND CONFERENCES – Report Cards for the second quarter will be issued on Friday, January 17. Conferences for this quarter are on a need basis, and notices will be sent home on Monday, January 13. If a parent does not receive a notice from a teacher but would like to meet for a conference, please contact the teacher to set up a time for the afternoon of Friday, January 17. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m, and conferences will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

  • HOLIDAY – There will be no school on Monday, January 20 in recognition of the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.


MAP TESTING – Our second MAP testing session will take place from Tuesday, January 21 to Friday, February 10.  

For Grades 4 and up:

NEW LATE WORK POLICY – To provide our students with consistency between the different grade levels, from Grade 4-12, the school has adopted a new policy for late work that went into effect on January 7, 2014.  Please check your child’s blog for more information.
