P.E. CLASS

Boy last week…It has been quite a ride sharing with you, kids, at Discovery and certainly a good experience. I can only wish you all, the Best of the Best for this academic year to come; Enjoy your summer vacation! …

As always reminding you (for the last time), that for P.E. class
I need all students to wear proper clothing for the class.-
·       Sneakers, long shorts (boys and girls) or sweat pants, and t-shirts or jerseys (without cleavage).

-  No dresses for the girls
-  No jeans
-  No crocs
-  No sandals
-  No boots or shoes

(Please, mom & dad, collaborate with your kids by sending a proper sunscreen or sun block with them to avoid any skin rash, and please include a mosquito repellent as well.)

6th to 11th graders, 4 quarters have passed like a week on the beach. I hope the P.e. class was satisfactory for all of you throughout this academic year, always keeping in mind, that your feedback is crucial to make out of the P.e. class a much better experience each year and make it an intrinsic part of your learning process.

Once again, best wishes to all of you, and my last message for you will be, that humbleness, gentleness, and being respectful, are virtues of real Leaders.

One last reminder for 6th B and 10th A, your beep test is taking place this Monday.

DONATIONS - Moving?  Cleaning out?  Community Service Club is collecting used toys in good condition to take with them on their monthly visits to Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphange.  Toys can be dropped off in Mrs. Agurcia's room (Rm. 7, Secondary Building).

REPORT CARDS – To facilitate things for our parents, especially those who will be traveling or moving away, the administration has decided to issue the end of the year report cards and MAP reports on Friday, June 6 instead of Friday, June 13 as stated in the calendar. Parents will come to the school to pick up these documents.

DOG SITTER NEEDED – Ms Diane is looking for someone to care for her 1 1/2 year old German shepherd mix dog from June 10-July 17. She is medium-sized.   Must be a dog lover and have no male dogs (the dog has not been spayed yet.)  A securely gated yard is a must.  She is an indoor dog.  Ms Diane will provide food treats and money for any vet emergency that may arise. Bella does well with adults and teenage children.  Please contact Diane Howard-Coventry in the 4th grade.

P.E. CLASS

May 19 to 23, 2014

Almost there kids, make sure you end the race in the Best shape possible…

As always reminding you that for P.E. class:
We need all students to wear proper clothing for the class.
·       Sneakers, long shorts (boys and girls) or sweat pants, and t-shirt (without cleavage) or jerseys.

-  No dresses for the girls
-  No jeans
-  No crocs
-  No sandals
-  No boots or shoes

(Please, mom & dad collaborate with us by sending a proper sunscreen or sun block with your son or daughter to avoid any skin rash, and please include a mosquito repellent as well.)

9th to 11th graders, we are culminating this academic year and we shall end it strongly. For this week we will have the 2 last test to measure your physical fitness beginning with the Illinois test (for those grades who missed to take it last week) and closing with the Beep test. By now you all know what a balanced meal consists of so please eat properly this week, so you can be in good for the tests.
Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

6th to 8th graders, I’ll be testing you kids as well with both the Illinois and the Beep test; be ready. With the exception for 6th B that will be taking the Beep test on Monday 26, the rest will be tested on this current week.

P.E. CLASS

We are on the last stage of the marathon, let’s finish it strong!

As always reminding you that for P.E. class:
We need all students to wear proper clothing for the class.
·       Sneakers, long shorts (boys and girls) or sweat pants, and t-shirt (without cleavage) or jerseys.

-  No sandals

(Please, mom & dad collaborate with us by sending a proper sunscreen or sun block with your son or daughter to avoid any skin rash, and please include a mosquito repellent as well.)

9th to 11th graders, continuing with the workout project, this week’s performers are: Sofia and Dylan from 11th. Also we shall test how much you have improved your speed, taking your time in a 50m. dash; just like the last time. For Thursday and Friday, we have the Illinois test, this test is aim to measure your level of agility and speed; so be ready.

6th to 8th graders, we will start the workout project with  partnerships whom will be in charge of bringing a routine that encompass cardio and strengthening exercises, and we shall play the game “river crossing battle”; this game will test determination and agility of each team member.

SPRING GENERAL ASSEMBLY - The General Assembly of parents will be held on Saturday, May 17, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Cafeteria. We are required to have a quorum of one-third of our parents present in order for the meeting to be considered legal and for any decisions made at the General Assembly to be binding. We have 325 parents listed as members of the school association, so we need to have at least 108 parents in attendance (although only one parent per family can vote, both parents can be counted for quorum). We need for YOU to attend! Your ideas and your votes are important for the school. The school will provide supervision and activities for children during the General Assembly (from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.) Dr. Jay Ketterer, Discovery School’s new Head of School, will be present at the Assembly.

DPTO– The DPTO will be hosting their traditional GARAGE SALE and CAR WASH this Saturday, May 17. We hope all our school community will mark their calendars and support the DPTO by attending!

DISCOVERY GOES GREEN- Thank you for all of you who have participated in green activities during April. 

-Congratulations to the 2nd grade classes for bringing the most material for the Recycling Drive.  They will celebrate with the Environmental Science students by having a "earthly" snack on Tuesday. 
-Also, a large thank you goes out to all the families that sponsored plants for the Greening Our Campus activity.  The students had lots of fun getting dirty, using their "green thumbs" to plant.  We planted 65 bushes and more are to come in the next few weeks.  Our campus is definitely looking greener!

DPTO FUN RUN AND CARNIVAL – The DPTO will be hosting their traditional events this Saturday, May 10. The FUN RUN begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the traditionalpancake breakfast, and the CARNIVAL will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We hope all our school community will mark their calendars and support the DPTO by attending and having a great family time!
